Sleeker and slimmer than its predecessor, the Sidekick LX (2009) for T-Mobile is ready for speed with connectivity to T-Mobile's 3G network for fast downloads and quick access to your favorite social networking sites. Other enhancements include a high-definition LCD, a camera with flash, improved video capabilities, mood lights which lets users set specific settings for various communication alerts, and GPS-enabled Live Search.


The T-Mobile Sidekick LX features a swivel-out 3.2-inch screen, full QWERTY keyboard, and 3.2-megapixel camera/camcorder (see larger image).


The improved Sidekick LX also includes access to streaming online content and GPS-enabled Live Search as well as the ability to add geotag information to photos (see larger image).
Like other Sidekicks, the Sidekick LX's screen slides up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, enabling you to fire off quick text messages as well as chat on popular instant messaging services. The Sidekick LX also provides one-click access to the most popular social networking sites, including MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. Other features include a 3-megapixel camera/camcorder, microSD memory expansion to 8 GB (a 128 MB card is included), Bluetooth for hands-free devices and stereo music streaming, digital audio/video player, full HTML web browser, and up to 5.5 hours of talk time. A Sidekick data service is required.
T-Mobile Service
The Sidekick LX operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and is compatible with T-Mobile's UMTS/HSDPA 3G network, which operates on the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. This phone is designed to automatically connect to the best available network (3G or GSM/GPRS/EDGE) to provide faster data speeds when accessing the Web or downloading content from the T-Mobile Web2go content portal. T-Mobile is currently rolling out its 3G network, and it expects by year's end that its high-speed data network will be available in those cities where a majority of its subscribers currently use data services.
In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and e-mail on the go.
While this phone is optimized for use with T-Mobile's high-speed 3G network, many of its functions will also work well on the moderate-speed EDGE network. If you plan to access the Internet extensively on your phone, 3G network coverage may serve you best.

This phone is compatible with T-Mobile's Mobile Backup, a free service that stores your phone's contact information is case your phone is lost, stolen, or damaged, so you do not have re-enter all of your contact information when you get a new phone.

When closed, the Sidekick LX has a candybar-style with an extra-large 3.2-inch LCD screen (the largest on a Sidekick yet) featuring a high-def 854 x 480-pixel resolution and a 65K color depth. The "Communities" section of the Sidekick provides one-click access to the most popular social networking sites, bringing Facebook, MySpace and Twitter directly to you via customized applications that update automatically and put notifications directly on the Sidekick home screen. The GPS-enabled Live Search lets you map your current location and search for a nearby coffee shop or cafe, share favorite spots with friends via integration with Sidekick's messaging capabilities, or view additional search tabs to quickly check real time traffic, gas prices or movie showtimes.
The Sidekick LX also delivers an improved multimedia experience with a 3.2 megapixel camera and enhanced video capabilities that make it easy for you to record and share pictures and videos on popular social networking sites. The camera includes an auto-focus function and flash as well as white balance controls, and choice of multiple resolution and quality options. And with GPS capabilities, you'll be able to geotag photos with the exact mapping coordinates where they were shot. The device also includes video capture capabilities. Support for audio and video streaming lets your view and listen to favorite online content from sites like YouTube.
The phone has a 256 MB internal flash memory plus 128 MB RAM, and you can expand the devices memory using optional microSD memory cards (up to 8 GB in size). The phonebook can store a whopping 2000 contacts, with each entry providing multiple fields for phone numbers and e-mail/IM addresses. It also provides support for caller groups and picture/ringer ID.
Handsfree communication is easy thanks to the integrated speakerphone.
